Innovation Minister Senator Kim Carr helped students from Canberra’s Monash Primary School build a ‘virtual SKA’ on the lawns of Parliament House for another successful Discover SKA event.

The Minister spoke with the students about the SKA and assisted them to place their personally decorated paper dishes in the virtual SKA core-site and remote array stations. One of Questacon’s Excited Particles science communicators was also on hand to provide students with an energetic and informative presentation.

The Minister said he was delighted the SKA bid was engaging the students in science and he encouraged all young Australians to learn about the world around them.

“It's terrific that even before the SKA is built, we are exciting such young minds and helping them learn about space and astronomy," Senator Carr said.

"Even more exciting is the possibility that the students working on this model SKA today may be the scientists working on the real SKA tomorrow.”
