A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed in Berlin on April 7, 2011, paving the way for renewable energy innovation for the SKA and its Pathfinders.
The MoU was signed between Australia's CSIRO, the Fraunhofer Institute of Solar Energy and the Max Plank Institute for Radio Astronomy. The signing took place during a workshop on 'Renewable Energy Concepts for Mega-Science Projects demonstrated by the SKA and its Pathfinders' in Berlin, Germany.
A key focus of this MoU is to promote scientific cooperation between Australia and Experts from Germany and the rest of the world, in renewable energy capture, storage and management for the Square Kilometre Array (SKA). The MOU also looks to advance collaboration between Fraunhofer ISE, the Max Plank Institute for Radio Astronomy and CSIRO on the development of renewable energy systems for the Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory (MRO) and the Australian SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP) instrument as an SKA precursor facility.
