'Windows to the Universe' Teacher Resource
Australia's National Science and Technology Centre, Questacon, and Western Australia's Scitech have developed Windows to the Universe, a free teaching resource aimed at students in years 9-10.
CSIRO's Radio Astronomy Education Resources
CSIRO has developed the popular Pulse@Parkes program that allows high school students to remotely control the Parkes telescope to observe pulsars.
The “Wildflowers in the Sky” program engaged students from Australia's remote Mid West region in hands-on science and astronomy activities. CSIRO is also an active participant in the Outreach Committee of the international SKA Program Development Office.
For more information on the range of astronomy education and outreach activities offered at the CSIRO, please refer to Australia Telescope Outreach and Education.
Astronomy WA Resources
Astronomy WA was created as part of the ASISTM (Australian School Innovation in Science, Technology and Mathematics) Earth and Beyond project, which aims to bring about real and permanent improvements to the ways in which science, technology and mathematics are taught in our schools. Its focus is on Western Australia's contribution to astronomy and to provide useful resources to teachers, students and community members interested in this field.
Astronomy WA offers a number of activities at observatories around Western Australia as well travelling, interactive shows and scholarships for teachers.
SKA Education Website
Questacon and Scitech have been funded by the Australian Government to create an SKA education website, supporting exhibits, interactive science shows and teacher resources.
The website was launched at the public astronomy lecture at the Hawthorn campus of Swinburne University of Technology on 9 December 2009.
